Left leaders meet Limon
and family (bdnews25.wapamp.com/Dhaka)-- Leaders
of several left organisations on
Friday visited the rented
residence of Limon Hossain at
Kaukhali upazila in Pirojpur
district to know the latest condition of the college student
from Jhalkhati and his family. Gana Oikya Convener Pankaj
Bhattacharya and other left
leaders met Limon and his
mother Henuara Begum, uncle
Mohammad Siddique Hossain
and other family members on Friday noon. Later, Bangladesh Workers
Party President Rashed Khan
Menon talked to Limon, who
had to have his leg amputated
allegedly after being shot by
the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), over phone. "The Workers Party President
has assured me that they will
stay by my side like before,"
Limon told reporters. After meeting Limon and his
family, Bhattacharya said, "A
part of the state-machinery
has crippled Limon. This has
rather crippled the state itself,
not Limon alone. It is a crime against humanity." He also urged the Prime
Minister to gather information
about what had happened to
Limom 'from a reliable source'. A RAB team reportedly shot
and arrested Limon, who used
to work in a brick kiln to foot
the study bill, in the leg after
taking him to a place adjacent
to his house at Jamaddarhat in Razapur Upazila of Jhalakathi
on Mar 23 last year. Limon's left leg was amputated
from the thigh four days later
at the Dhaka National Institute
for Traumatolgy and
Orthopaedic Rehabilitation
(NITOR) Hospital after the tissues were totally damaged
due to excessive bleeding. Three cases were filed over
the incident. RAB filed two cases against
Limon accusing him of
preventing law enforcers from
carrying out their duties and
for possessing illegal fire arms.
Charge-sheets have been submitted against Limon in the
cases. Limon's mother also filed a
case against the RAB officials
for shooting her son. On Aug
14, Rajapur police submitted
the final report relieving the
RAB of the allegations. On Aug 20, the Eid day,
Limon and his family members
were attacked by a group of
people allegedly led by one
Ibrahim Howlader. Howladar
was identified as a RAB source by Limon's family in a
complaint filed at local police
station. Limon's mother Henuara Begum
filed a general dairy (GD)
with the Rajapur Police Station
the next day in connection with
the attack. The body of Ibrahim's in-law
Forkan was retrieved from the
same area immediately after
the attack was launched on
Limon and his mother. Police recorded the case as
an incident of unnatural death
as Ibrahim's wife Lili Begum
went to the Rajapur Police
Station to file a murder case
over his brother's death. Later, the court directed Police
to submit its report after
launching a judicial investigation
into the killing.(bdnews25.wapamp.com/Dhaka)
